Are you doing regular backups of all your data?
Jul 22nd
Have you thought about what would happen if you lost ALL your data in a major catastrophe? All your important contacts, e-mails, documents and databases gone forever? Can you recover from such a disaster?
Few people take note of the possibility of an impending data loss disaster. How often have we in the I.T. field heard someone say “If only i had backed up…” The severity of data loss can never be underestimated. Old e-mails, office documents and even phone numbers are indispensable in today’s business world.
Various means exist to backup your critical data, hourly, daily, weekly and monthly. A backup solution generally needs to be carefully planned, implemented and chosen to suit it’s environment. Possible hardware and software failure on a backup solution is also a reality so multiple backups on different devices are a must.
Backup devices include:
* USB Flash drives
* DVD’s
* External hard drives
* Digital tape
* Online backups

How can a monthly I.T. support contract help your company?
Jul 21st
Sometimes small business owners think of I.T. professionals as an unnecessary expense that can be done without. The “pizza and beer” kid is usually the likely candidate that gets called to fix a broken computer or glitchy software. This kid works for cheap and the results are the same at the end of the day. Or are they?
Ask yourself the following important questions:
* Does your current I.T. guy give you a guarantee on his work?
* Can you hold your current I.T. guy liable for any works completed or is he prone to disappearing acts?
* Does your current I.T. guy have a no-fix no-fee policy?
* Does your current I.T. guy suggest best practices with regards to your I.T.?
I.T. professionals see “the big picture” and not just the problem at hand. A monthly support contract is an essential part of a healthy I.T. network. At The HUB™ we pride ourselves on our relationships with our clients through our custom contracts. As part of all our support contracts we offer the following services:
* I.T. help desk with ticket-logging facility
* Monthly scheduled site visits
* Phone and remote support
* Daily server checking
* Free network infrastructure audit and run book
* Infrastructure upgrade planning, etc.

K9 Web Protection
May 17th
I have been playing around with K9 web protection for a week now, after one of my customers asked for a program to monitor and block Adult and Social networking websites at his company. I would recomend K9 to anyone, home or business. If you have a young kid who’s playing games on or has access to the Internet and you would like to protect them from all the bad elements out there on the World Wide Web. K9 would do all that for you. It is very easy to setup and you as the Boss or parents have the chance to put a password in the program to allow only you to access those websites that k9 block. Even better, K9 has the function to show you the exact websites that you have viewed on a particular day. You can also set the time that a user may be on the Internet. This is very good for those parents who struggle to get their children off their P.C’s and also for the bosses to set a time at which the Internet may be used.
I would recomend K9 to anyone!!!!
Thanks to Blue Coat for their excellent program.

“I send you my CV”
May 16th
Ever wonder what happens when you have a momentary lapse of reason and you decide to open up an e-mail with an attachment that looks like a CV? Does this e-mail look familiar?
Hello!
I have figured out that you have an available job.
I am quiet intrested in it. So I send you my resume,
Looking forward to your reply.
Thank you.
I can see the confusion on your face. How did this person know that you were going to post an advert on Gumtree for an available position at your wonderful company……………next week? Might this be the wonderful, read my mind before the boss has to say it, type of employee that’s been spotted only in the wild? Alas, no. Fortune is not on your side.
According to Sophos, the following is more likely:
“…opening the attached ZIP file (My_Resume_6213.zip or My_Resume_317.zip) is not a good idea as despite first impressions it doesn’t really include a Curriculum Vitae, but instead carries a malware-infected file. Sophos proactively intercepts the attack as Mal/FakeAV-BW and Mal/BredoZp-B.”
So there you have it. I can still forgive the virus, but the bad grammar…..?
